Betty Gilpin Discusses Prosthetic Use in ‘Office Romance’ Birthing Scene

Betty Gilpin recently shared her experience filming a unique birthing scene in the romantic comedy “Office Romance,” featuring Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein. At the film’s Los Angeles premiere, she discussed her initial apprehension upon seeing the prosthetic used in the scene.
Behind the Scenes of ‘Office Romance’
Gilpin expressed her surprise, saying, “Honestly, I was pretty freaked out when I first saw the prosthetic vagina.” During the filming process, she relied on support from her co-star Lopez, quipping, “I’ll be holding the ultimate working mom’s hand.”
The Filming Process
The setup for the scene was quite intricate. Gilpin explained that her real legs were hidden beneath a table. She wore prosthetic legs while a puppeteer stood behind her. The puppeteer operated an animatronic baby that emerged from her prosthetic vagina, creating a unique and unusual scene while adding sound effects.
Gilpin described the moment, saying, “It was insane.” She noted the most challenging part was resetting the scene. Once completed, the puppeteers remained in the room to return the prosthetic components back to their original state, including the fake placenta.
