Oscar Onley Loses 29 Minutes After Crash at Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

In a dramatic turn of events at the Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Oscar Onley, the GC leader for Netcompany-Ineos, experienced a crash during stage 6. The incident occurred on the final descent from Côte d’Héry-sur-Ugine, just under 10 kilometers from the finish line. Matteo Jorgenson of Visma-Lease a Bike witnessed the fall and expressed concern over Onley’s well-being.

Crash Details and Aftermath

The stage measured 182.3 kilometers, culminating in Crest-Voland. Despite the crash, Onley managed to cross the finish line, albeit 29 minutes and 17 seconds behind stage winner Maxim Van Gils of Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe. Following the completion of the stage, Netcompany-Ineos confirmed Onley would undergo medical assessment to evaluate any injuries.

Team Struggles on Stage 6

It was a challenging day for Netcompany-Ineos, marked by further setbacks. Earlier in the stage, teammate Josh Tarling also crashed, prompting concern as he was seen protecting his left arm. The team later stated that Tarling was being evaluated for injuries.

Impact on Overall Standings

As if the day couldn’t worsen, Kévin Vauquelin, another key GC leader for the team, struggled to maintain his position. He fell behind in the final climb after Decathlon CMA CGM’s Paul Seixas launched an attack. Consequently, Vauquelin lost 1 minute and 32 seconds to Seixas and dropped dramatically from second to 15th place overall.

  • New race leader: Luke Tuckwell (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe)
  • Vauquelin’s overall time loss: 3 minutes and 50 seconds behind Tuckwell
  • Vauquelin trails Seixas by 44 seconds

The events of stage 6 at the Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes underline the unpredictable nature of cycling and the challenges that teams face during high-stakes competitions.
