Lemmy’s Ashes Memorialized in Fruit Machine at Download Festival This Weekend

At Download Festival this weekend, fans will have the opportunity to honor the late Lemmy Kilmister, legendary frontman of Motörhead. In a special ceremony, portions of his ashes will be enshrined in a fruit machine as part of the ongoing Lemmy Forever initiative.
Lemmy’s Ashes Memorialized at Download Festival
The ceremony is scheduled for Friday, June 12, at Donington Park. Lemmy’s custom urn will be a significant part of Lemmy’s Lounge, a tribute space dedicated to the musician. This urn features a miniature design of his unique memorial.
A Journey Through Music History
Since Lemmy’s passing on December 28, 2015, his ashes have traveled to various locations significant to him. These include:
- Hellfest, France
- The Rainbow Bar & Grill, West Hollywood
- Stringfellows, London
- Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent (Lemmy’s hometown)
After his cremation, parts of his ashes were placed inside custom bullet casings and gifted to close friends, while others now form part of his memorial locations around the globe. Motörhead manager Todd Singerman expressed pride in this effort, stating, “Not everyone can make the pilgrimage to visit Lemmy in Hollywood, so we are bringing Lem back to his fans.”
Paying Tribute to Phil Campbell
The ceremony will also allow fans to pay their respects to Phil Campbell, Lemmy’s longtime guitarist, who tragically passed away in March this year. Singerman emphasized the importance of honoring Phil, stating, “When Phil passed we lost such an important family member. I know Lem would insist we all raise a glass to Phil as well.”
As fans gather to celebrate Lemmy’s legacy, they may also find themselves sharing stories and raising a glass in his memory. According to reports, some fans have even claimed to see Lemmy’s ghost at his favorite rock haunts. The Download Festival promises to be a poignant moment for rock fans and an enduring tribute to a true musical icon.
