Former Manavgat Mayor Niyazi Nefi Kara is now embroiled in a major corruption and bribery trial. The charges against him have sparked significant public interest, given the implications for local governance.

The indictment prepared by the Manavgat Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office comprises 155 pages and encompasses 33 distinct incidents. A total of 41 individuals have been charged with serious offenses, including:

- Bribery, both accepting and offering
- Embezzlement
- Extortion
The indictment alleges that Kara, labeled as the leader of the criminal organization, created a bribery network by appointing relatives to key positions. It is specifically noted that bribes were solicited for various administrative approvals, including construction permits and business licenses.

Witness statements reveal that Kara directly managed the bribery schemes. One witness disclosed that individuals who supported Kara during the election campaign were asked for bribes in their construction applications. Another witness claimed that Kara contacted him, expressing intentions to run for the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality mayorship and stated he needed 20 million Euros for his campaign.
The prosecution asserts that part of the funds collected under Kara’s direction has been used to increase his personal wealth. Investigations into property records have yielded findings supporting these claims.

Significant property transactions associated with Kara were recorded on May 14, 2024, which serve as evidence in the indictment. The legal proceedings are set to commence on December 2 at the Manavgat 3rd Heavy Criminal Court.
