Despite his success, his academic attendance suffered, leading to difficulties with final exams. However, the university recognized his contributions and allowed him to continue schooling for two additional years. Ultimately, he spent five years at Maharaja’s College before graduation.

K.S. Prasad, an early mentor and member of the Mimicry Artistes Association, praised Kumar’s talent for imitating political figures. His popularity grew when he joined the Kalabhavan troupe in 1993, becoming a contemporary of the late Kalabhavan Mani.
