Wrexham AFC Secures Liverpool Goalkeeper Transfer

Wrexham AFC continues to make headlines not just for its Hollywood ownership, but also for its commitment to developing talent at the academy level. Recently, the club announced the intake of its first-year scholars for the 2026/27 season, marking an important milestone in nurturing young players.

Wrexham AFC Welcomes New Scholars

This week, Wrexham confirmed that eight young athletes are set to join the Professional Development Phase. These players were officially welcomed during an induction evening at Rossett Hall. Academy Manager Gus Williams and Professional Development Phase Lead Coach Craig Knight hosted the event, presenting each scholar with a personalized shirt.

Knight emphasized the significance of this moment for the players. He noted, “It’s not the end of the journey, just a little stop-off point along the way.”

Introducing Miles Lewis

Among the new scholars is goalkeeper Miles Lewis, who has recently transitioned from Liverpool’s academy to Wrexham’s programs. At just sixteen years old, Lewis comes with an impressive resume, having spent eight years at Liverpool before his release.

His journey to Wrexham began in February, during which he was invited for a trial with the Under-18 team. Notably, he had the opportunity to warm up with the first team prior to a match against Ipswich Town. This experience underscores the positive environment at Wrexham’s academy.

Gratitude and Future Aspirations

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Lewis announced his departure from Liverpool. He expressed his gratitude for the experiences he gained, saying, “I’m so grateful for all the opportunities given to me and so proud to say I’ve represented this club.”

While being released from a prestigious academy can be challenging, it often leads to new opportunities. Tom Atcheson, who left Liverpool at the Under-12 level, recently received Blackburn Rovers’ Young Player of the Year award. His success serves as a reminder that such transitions can result in fruitful careers.

The Next Chapter for Lewis

Wrexham provides Lewis with an ideal platform to continue his development. As the club’s academy program expands, young scholars like Lewis can elevate their skills amidst a growing infrastructure. Next season, he will line up for Wrexham’s Under-18 team, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in his football journey.
