Tehran Retaliates Against Gulf Neighbors Following US Strike on Military Sites

On Saturday, several members of the Lebanese military, including a senior officer, lost their lives in an Israeli airstrike near the Khardali-Nabatiyeh road. The Lebanese army confirmed the deaths, describing the attack as a “barbaric Israeli raid” targeting a military vehicle.
The Casualties of the Recent Strikes
The officer killed was identified as a brigadier-general, according to Lebanon’s National News Agency. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that they targeted the vehicle after it raised suspicions. They indicated that the area had been evacuated due to indications of Hezbollah activity.
Escalation of Violence
The recent strike is part of an ongoing pattern of violence, despite a US-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon. The region near Nabatiyeh has witnessed multiple Israeli attacks in recent days. Earlier this week, two strikes killed one Lebanese soldier and injured two others.
Hezbollah’s Response
Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed group, has been active in targeting Israeli troops and settlements. The group dismissed the ceasefire, insisting it would continue its operations until Israeli forces exit Lebanon.
Casualty Reports and Evacuations
- At least 21 individuals were reported killed due to Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon last Friday.
- The IDF issued an evacuation order on Saturday, urging residents to leave several villages near the Israeli border.
- Civilians were instructed to move north of the Zahrani River, approximately 25 miles (40 kilometers) from Israel.
This situation remains fluid, with the IDF stating that the circumstances surrounding these incidents are still under review. They assured that “lessons will be learned accordingly” as tensions continue to escalate in the region.
