Canadiens’ Caufield and Suzuki Surprise with NHL Awards Recognition

In a dazzling moment for the Montreal Canadiens, Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield have been recognized at the NHL Awards. The pair showcased their skills and sportsmanship, receiving accolades that highlight their contributions to the team.

Nick Suzuki’s Award Recognition

Nick Suzuki was honored with the prestigious Selke Trophy, awarded annually to the NHL forward recognized for excellence in defensive play. The announcement came as a delightful surprise when Caufield presented the award to Suzuki. At 26 years old, Suzuki has demonstrated remarkable consistency, not missing a game in his seven-season career.

Season Performance

  • Scored a career-high 101 points (29 goals, 72 assists)
  • Led the Canadiens with 43 power-play points
  • Achieved a plus-minus rating of +37 over 82 games

“I didn’t expect that at all,” said Suzuki following the award presentation. “Pretty surreal right now, really honored to be selected for the award.” His impressive performance included taking 1,449 face-offs, winning 50.4% of them, and averaging 20:49 of ice time per game, the highest among Montreal forwards.

Caufield’s Rising Stardom

Cole Caufield, selected as the 15th overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft, shares a special bond with Suzuki. Their on-ice chemistry has thrived since Caufield’s NHL debut. Suzuki assisted on Caufield’s milestone 300th NHL point during a game against the Buffalo Sabres in November 2024.

Team’s Achievements

  • Montreal Canadiens finished with a record of 48 wins, 24 losses, and 10 overtime losses.
  • Secured second place in the Atlantic Division.
  • Reached the Eastern Conference Final, ultimately losing to the Carolina Hurricanes.

Coach Martin St. Louis praised both players, highlighting their roles as impactful leaders. “They know that it takes more than one guy to achieve these trophies,” he noted. The recognition of Suzuki and Caufield reflects not just their individual talents but also the collaborative spirit of the Canadiens.
