Thatcham CC Falls Short Amid High-Scoring Weekend Challenges for Local Teams

Thatcham Town faced disappointment in the Thames Valley League Division 2A on Saturday after a strong home performance. They hosted White Waltham at Brownsfield, where they batted first after winning the toss. The team posted a commendable total but ultimately fell short of victory.
Thatcham’s Strong Start
Thatcham made an impressive start, with openers Michael Klichowicz and Simon Lewis forming a robust partnership of 102 runs. Klichowicz achieved a half-century, scoring 59 runs off 70 balls before being dismissed by Sreekanth Surendran. Lewis, the innings anchor, narrowly missed a century, finishing with 93 runs from 139 balls, including 11 boundaries and one six.
Late contributions from Odhinn Moore, who scored 35 runs off just 17 balls, helped push Thatcham to a total of 243 runs for eight wickets in 50 overs.
Waltham’s Successful Run Chase
In response, White Waltham launched a determined chase. Their openers, Usman Butt and Cloudesley Long, set a solid foundation with scores of 28 and 38, respectively. The match turned decisively in favor of Waltham as Matt Furness and Ben Scarborough forged a significant partnership.
- Scarborough scored 62 runs off 54 balls.
- Furness remained not out with 85 runs from 97 balls.
This duo’s 115-run partnership allowed Waltham to reach 247 runs for five wickets, securing victory with almost eight overs to spare.
Theale and Tilehurst’s Victory
Elsewhere, Theale and Tilehurst celebrated a convincing win against Kidmore End at Douai Abbey. After being asked to bowl, they excelled in limiting Kidmore to 188 runs. Craig Palmer was the top scorer for the visitors with 30 runs.

- Robert Dimmack also took 3 wickets, conceding only 12 runs.
In reply, Theale chased down a revised target of 190 runs, achieving 190 for 4 wickets in just 31.4 overs. Abdullah Nadeem led the charge with 32 runs, while Oliver Buckle anchored the innings with an unbeaten 53 runs.
Purley on Thames’ Struggles
Purley on Thames faced a challenging game against Aldershot at Goosecroft. Aldershot batted first, amassing a formidable total of 332 runs for 6 wickets, featuring an outstanding 133 from opener Alex Farr.
- Corne Botes contributed 57 runs.
- Rob Hislop added 64 runs.
Usman Ijaz was the standout bowler for Purley, taking 2 wickets for 65 runs. However, Purley struggled to build partnerships in their response, resulting in their dismissal for just 169 runs, with skipper George Wheeler scoring the highest at 34 runs.
Sulhamstead & Ufton’s Challenges
Sulhamstead & Ufton also endured difficulties, hosting Binfield at the Watson Oval. Binfield posted an impressive 340 runs for 6 wickets, led by Arno Hattingh’s remarkable 107 off 116 balls, alongside James Muir’s contribution of 64 runs.
Sulhamstead fought back with half-centuries from Marc Thompson (63) and Mubarak Tahir (57) but could only manage 204 runs before being bowled out.
