Las Vegas, Raleigh Leaders Wager on VGK-Hurricanes Stanley Cup Finals

As the Stanley Cup Finals approach, the excitement in Las Vegas is palpable. The Vegas Golden Knights are gearing up for their third Stanley Cup run, this time against the Carolina Hurricanes. Ahead of the opening game, officials from both cities have decided to place friendly bets to add extra excitement to the series.
Wager Between Mayors
Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley and Raleigh Mayor Janet Cowell have made a light-hearted wager. If the Golden Knights secure a win, Cowell must don a VGK jersey at a city council meeting and send authentic North Carolina barbecue to Las Vegas. Mayor Berkley emphasized the strength of Las Vegas, saying, “If I were you, I would never bet against Vegas.”
Conversely, should the Hurricanes win, Berkley will wear a Carolina jersey and send a gift basket from Las Vegas to Raleigh. The stakes are high, and both mayors are feeling the pressure as they support their respective teams.
Clergy Join the Fun
The friendly competition extends beyond municipal leaders, with local religious leaders also participating in the wagering. Archbishop George Leo Thomas from the Archdiocese of Las Vegas has offered two Mafioso steak packages from the famed Golden Steer Steakhouse. He expressed confidence in the Golden Knights, stating, “Las Vegas never folds under pressure.”
In response, Bishop Luis Rafael Zarama of the Diocese of Raleigh has put forth North Carolina’s culinary delights. He is wagering the state’s celebrated slow-cooked barbecue along with a sweet pecan pie. Bishop Zarama commented, “It is my pleasure to share in this way the blessings of our respective dioceses as we root for our home teams.”
