Newcastle United Confirms Men’s First Team Retained List

Newcastle United has officially released its retained list for the men’s first team, confirming several departures and continued contracts. The club’s management has evaluated the squad and made decisions to shape the future of the team.
Key Departures from Newcastle United
Among the notable departures is goalkeeper John Ruddy, who has been a dependable member of the team. Max Thompson, another goalkeeper with valuable experience, will also leave the club after contributing significantly in recent seasons.
Mark Gillespie, however, will remain in the squad for an additional year, providing continuity for the goalkeeping unit. Thompson, an Academy product, has gained considerable first-team exposure through loan spells.
Full-Back Departures
Full-back Matt Targett is also set to exit after completing a successful season-long loan at Middlesbrough in the Championship. Targett joined Newcastle in January 2022 from Aston Villa and has made 47 appearances for the Magpies.
Goalkeeper Returns
Another prominent name on the retained list is Aaron Ramsdale. The goalkeeper will return to his parent club, Southampton, following his loan period. During his time at Newcastle, Ramsdale made 23 appearances across all competitions this season.
Acknowledgment of Contributions
Newcastle United extends its gratitude to all departing players for their contributions to the team. The club wishes them success in their future endeavors as they move on from St. James’ Park.
