Quebec Residents to Soon Receive Compensation from Bread Cartel Settlement

Quebec residents involved in the bread cartel class action will soon receive compensation. Each eligible person will receive a payment of $42.50. Over 1.3 million individuals registered in the province to claim their share after overpaying for bread, averaging $1.50 more per loaf for nearly two decades.

Compensation Process

The compensation process will begin with an initial email from Concilia. Recipients will follow this with a second email from Interac for payment processing. Participants do not need to provide credit card or bank account numbers, ensuring security and minimizing fraud risks.

Background on the Bread Cartel

This class action stems from the admission of Loblaw, a major grocery chain, of its role in the price-fixing scheme. While Loblaw is cooperating with the legal team, other major supermarkets like Metro and IGA continue to deny their involvement. To date, no formal charges have been filed against these companies.
