Severe Weather Cancels Tour la Nuit Minutes Before Starting in Montreal

Severe weather conditions forced the cancellation of the Tour la Nuit cycling event in Montreal on Friday night. This annual race, spanning 20 kilometers, is one of the city’s largest cycling gatherings, and its abrupt end disappointed many cyclists eager to participate.
Cancellation Due to Severe Weather
Organizers worked diligently until the last minute to ensure the event could proceed safely. According to Vélo Québec, the collaboration involved the City of Montreal and the Montreal Police Service. Despite their best efforts, safety concerns left no viable options to continue the event.
Weather Warnings and Conditions
Environment Canada had issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the Montreal area shortly after 8 p.m. The forecast included small hail and intense rain, which ultimately impacted the decision to cancel the ride.
Participant Safety First
Vélo Québec emphasized that the safety of all participants is their foremost priority. The organization stated, “Given the current weather conditions, it was not feasible to hold the event without being able to guarantee optimal safety conditions.”
Tour la Nuit Route Details
The Tour la Nuit was set to kick off at Jarry Park, with the route taking cyclists through various boroughs, including:
