Kanye West, Travis Scott Concerts in Italy Cancelled

The highly anticipated concerts featuring Kanye West and Travis Scott, scheduled for July 17 and 18 at the Rcf Arena in Reggio Emilia, Italy, have been officially cancelled. This decision was made by Salvatore Angieri, the prefect of Reggio Emilia, based on concerns regarding public order and safety.

Cancellation Details

The cancellation follows a meeting by the provincial committee on May 25, which addressed concerns raised by consumer advocacy group Codacons and the Jewish community in Modena and Reggio Emilia. The cancellation affects both events planned for the Pulse of Gaia Festival, which were expected to draw a crowd of approximately 103,000 attendees.

Reasons Behind the Cancellation

Authorities indicated that the potential for counter-protests and extensive organizational issues justified the cancellation. The festival, which underwent a name change from Hellwatt Festival to Pulse of Gaia earlier this year, has encountered multiple controversies. Notably, the initial artistic director, Victor Yari Milani, faced criticism for ineffectiveness and was removed from his position by the venue.

Festival’s Line-Up

  • The festival still plans to feature other artists, including:
    • Offset
    • Ice Spice
    • Ty Dolla
    • Wiz Khalifa
    • The Chainsmokers
    • Rita Ora
    • Afrojack
    • Swedish House Mafia
    • Tyla

Kanye West’s European Tour Challenges

This cancellation adds to a series of previous shows cancelled across Europe for Kanye West. His concert in France was also halted due to public outcry following his controversial statements about Adolf Hitler. Additionally, the French interior minister indicated strong support for banning his scheduled performance in Marseille.

In Italy, leading political figures, including Carlo Calenda from the Azione party, have voiced concerns regarding West’s antisemitic remarks and called for restrictions on his entry. The situation has been equally tense in the UK, where an entry ban was placed on West, leading to the cancellation of several concerts there as well.

Upcoming Performances

Despite these setbacks, Kanye West continues to pursue his tour plans. He recently arrived in Istanbul, where he is scheduled to perform at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium, marking his first concert in Europe in over a decade. His future performances are set to include dates in Georgia, Spain, the Netherlands, and Albania.

As the situation develops, the fate of the Pulse of Gaia Festival and its remaining performances remains uncertain.
