Hundreds of Officers Rally in Raleigh for Flame of Hope Run Finale

On Friday, law enforcement officers from across North Carolina participated in the final segment of the Flame of Hope Run in Raleigh. This annual event marks the kickoff for the Special Olympics North Carolina Summer Games.

The run took place through downtown Raleigh, concluding at the State Capitol. Officers from various agencies, including Apex and Wake Forest police, joined hundreds of others in a show of support.

Organizers reported an increase in participation this year. Approximately 500 runners took part, up from 300 in the previous year. Dan Look from the Fuquay-Varina Police Department expressed pride in the event’s growth. He emphasized that the officers participate not for recognition, but to support the athletes.

Aerial footage captured the runners as they advanced along Hillsborough Street, nearing their goal at the State Capitol. The torch they carried will light the cauldron during the opening ceremony, signifying the start of the Special Olympics North Carolina Summer Games.
