The Delhi government has made significant alterations to the names of several Metro stations and public locations throughout the capital. This decision was finalized at a recent meeting of the State Names Authority, presided over by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.

Among the notable changes, Rohini West Metro Station will now be known as “Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital Metro Station.” The Dwarka Metro Station will be renamed “Dwarka-Kakrola Metro Station,” while Rohini East Metro Station will simply become “Rohini Metro Station.” These adjustments aim to better reflect local identities and significant figures.
Full List of Changes

- Rohini East Metro Station → Rohini Metro Station
- Dwarka Metro Station → Dwarka-Kakrola Metro Station
- Britannia Chowk, Shakurpur → Ashwini Chopra (Minna) Chowk

Britannia Chowk will now honor Ashwini Chopra, a notable journalist and former MP. Meanwhile, the under-construction sports complex in Begampur will be named “Atal Khel Parisar” in tribute to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, with plans to erect a statue of him at the site.
Rationale Behind the Changes
The Delhi government asserts that these renaming efforts seek to associate public facilities with recognizable landmarks and prominent individuals. For instance, renaming Rohini West Metro Station enhances its identity, helping commuters connect the station with the nearby hospital.
These naming decisions span various regions of the city, including Rohini, Dwarka, Shakurpur, and Jwalapuri. They encompass multiple transport hubs, public infrastructure, and civic sites, reflecting the cultural and historical consciousness of Delhi.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized that these changes are a recognition of personalities and places integral to Delhi’s identity. “Delhi symbolizes not just the administrative capital, but also the cultural, social, and historical ethos of our nation,” she remarked.
