Fortunately, only two individuals sustained minor injuries, receiving treatment for abrasions. Approximately 70 residents were evacuated while firefighters worked to extinguish the resulting fire.

This event is not isolated. Since the onset of the Ukraine conflict in February 2022, Romania has reported numerous drone fragments found on its soil. In fact, the Romanian defense ministry has documented 47 such incidents, with 12 occurring this year alone. A similar incident earlier in April also caused damage in Galati.
Wider Context of the Conflict
The situation continues to escalate in Ukraine. On the same night as the Romanian incident, Ukraine issued a nationwide air raid alert. Officials reported that the port city of Izmail in the Odesa region came under drone attacks.
Additionally, in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk region, three utility workers tragically lost their lives during a Ukrainian drone strike. The attack, claimed by local authorities, also left another worker in critical condition.
As the conflict persists, both military actions and collateral damage are becoming increasingly frequent, affecting civilians in neighboring countries like Romania.
