Season Ticket Holders Can Swap Seats with New Safe Standing Area

Newcastle United has announced significant changes to the seating arrangement at St. James’ Park aimed at enhancing the matchday atmosphere. These changes were shaped by the insights gathered from a dedicated Atmosphere Working Group (AWG), which included representatives from various fan organizations and club executives.

Introduction of Safe Standing Area

One of the major updates is the conversion of a large section of Level 7 into a safe standing area, accommodating over 1,700 fans. This adaptation will take place in the Leazes West Corner Blocks L7C, L7D, and L7E. Fans currently seated in this area have the option to remain in their seats or swap to a different location.

Seat Swaps for Fans

Those wishing to transition into the new safe standing blocks will have the opportunity to do so during the designated seat move window from June 1 to June 5. The seat swaps will not be limited to Level 7; they will be accessible throughout St. James’ Park, depending on availability.

  • Seat move window: June 1–June 5
  • Capacity of safe standing area: 1,741 supporters

Fan Feedback and Surveys

The initiative follows extensive surveys conducted by Wor Flags, which garnered nearly 6,000 responses from supporters. An alarming 73.9% of participants felt that the matchday atmosphere had declined over the past couple of seasons, with 69% favoring the establishment of a dedicated singing section.

Many fans expressed the desire to be seated with friends or like-minded individuals to foster a more passionate and connected environment.

A Commitment to Fan Experience

This adjustment reflects Newcastle United’s broader commitment to creating a modern, inclusive matchday experience driven by supporter feedback. The club emphasizes transparency throughout the process, ensuring that the alterations resonate with what fans want to experience at St. James’ Park.
