Blue Jays Update on Scherzer, Barger, Kirk Injuries

The Toronto Blue Jays continue to face challenges due to injuries impacting key players. Manager John Schneider recently offered updates on right-hander Max Scherzer, infielder Ricky Barger, and catcher Alejandro Kirk.
Max Scherzer’s Recovery Update
Max Scherzer is making progress in his recovery from forearm tendinitis and ankle inflammation. On Wednesday, he faced live hitters, signaling a positive step toward his rehabilitation.
Schneider mentioned that Scherzer is “feeling good” and the team hopes to quickly transition him into rehab games. Scherzer, who is 41 years old, was placed on the injured list on April 27 after struggling early in the season, recording a 9.64 ERA in 18.2 innings.
His complications began during a game against the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 6, when he left after only two innings due to forearm tendinitis.
Ricky Barger’s Status
Ricky Barger is also on the road to recovery from elbow inflammation. Schneider indicated that the 26-year-old might resume throwing activities shortly.
Barger has experienced multiple injury setbacks this season, including a month-long absence due to an ankle sprain prior to his current elbow issue.
Alejandro Kirk’s Progress
Alejandro Kirk, sidelined since early April with a fractured thumb, is another focus for the Blue Jays. Schneider stated that there are plans for Kirk to hit off a machine this weekend. The aim is to integrate him into rehab games by early June.
On Wednesday, the Blue Jays announced that Kirk was transferred to the 60-day injured list, marking a significant shift in his recovery timeline. Rookie Brandon Valenzuela has stepped in as the starting catcher during Kirk’s absence.
