“New ‘Fix and Fall’ Tariff Offers Energy Customers Added Assurance”

British Gas has introduced a new tariff called the “Fix and Fall” to provide customers with added assurance amid current energy market uncertainties. This initiative aims to offer consumers the stability of fixed rates while allowing for reductions if energy prices decrease.

Details of the ‘Fix and Fall’ Tariff

The Fix and Fall tariff ensures that customers’ energy rates remain unchanged for the first 12 months. If the Ofgem price cap drops during that period, British Gas will automatically reduce the rates, potentially lowering average dual fuel bills by up to £50. This change could take effect as early as July 1, 2027.

Incentives and Savings

  • Customers can enjoy half-price electricity on Sundays from 11 AM to 4 PM through the PeakSave program.
  • The tariff was developed following feedback from numerous clients during a trial phase.

Support for Customers in Need

British Gas is also addressing concerns related to rising energy costs. The company has pledged £40 million to aid those facing financial difficulties. This funding will assist thousands of households with grants and resources from the British Gas Energy Trust, an independent charity sponsored solely by British Gas.

Additional Assistance Programs

The company is expanding its Warm and Working scheme, which offers free home upgrades, boiler servicing, and energy efficiency enhancements to vulnerable households. British Gas engineers will visit up to 1,000 homes over the coming months to perform complimentary upgrades and checks, including for households not currently registered with British Gas.

Company Statements and Future Plans

Gary Booker, Managing Director of British Gas, emphasized the importance of customer peace of mind with the Fix and Fall tariff. He stated, “We want to give customers the real peace of mind that we know they want.” He highlighted that this approach ensures prices won’t rise for two years and offers the opportunity for savings if prices fall within the next year.

Moreover, the company plans to conduct free boiler checks and upgrades this summer, setting households up for the winter months. British Gas encourages individuals struggling with energy costs to explore the available support through the British Gas Energy Trust.
