Rise and Run Triumphs in Charity Fundraiser

Last Sunday, more than 120 runners participated in the inaugural Rise and Run event organized by East Kent Mind. The charity 5k took place in Whitstable and successfully raised over £2,500 for vital mental health services.

The Rise and Run event was officially kicked off by the Lord Mayor of Canterbury, Cllr Alister Brady. Participants included various groups from across Kent, showcasing a diverse and enthusiastic community.

The event brought together a strong community spirit, with participants ranging from seasoned runners to beginners.
Acknowledging Top Fundraisers
Among the participants, Kim Growns and Ella Vousden emerged as the top fundraisers, alongside a team from Starbucks that raised £260. Their efforts contributed significantly to the charity’s mission.
Winners and Contributions
The best costume award went to Run Together Canterbury, adding a fun element to the day’s events. Event coordinator Simon Dolby expressed gratitude towards the community for their support, which was integral to the event’s success.
Marshals and Volunteers
A special acknowledgment was made to the 20 marshals led by Lauren Mansfield. Their dedication ensured a smooth operation during the event. Significant thanks were also directed towards the Marine Hotel in Tankerton, volunteers at Whitstable Junior Park Run, G4S, and Eye Sky UK for their contributions.
The Rise and Run event not only highlighted the importance of mental health awareness but also fostered community connections through sport. With the success of this event, East Kent Mind continues its commitment to supporting local mental health initiatives.
