Gunfire Erupts in Montréal-Nord Library Restroom

On a troubling incident in Montréal-Nord, gunfire erupted inside a public library restroom on Thursday, around 12:30 PM. The library in question is the Julio-Jean-Pierre, located on Rolland Boulevard near Pascal Street. Two young suspects, believed to be teenagers, were reportedly handling a firearm when a shot was accidentally discharged.
Incident Details
Fortunately, no injuries occurred during the incident despite the presence of library patrons at the time. Several witnesses promptly contacted emergency services by calling 911 to report the gunfire. Following the discharge, the suspects fled the scene and have yet to be apprehended.
Police Investigation
The Montreal police dispatched forensic technicians to gather evidence from the incident site. A shell casing was notably recovered from the restroom where the incident took place.
Previous Similar Incidents
This event is not isolated. In October 2023, a similar occurrence took place at a library on François-Perrault Street in the Saint-Michel neighborhood. In that incident, several individuals contacted 911 after hearing what sounded like firecrackers inside the library. Upon investigation, it was found that teenagers had fired a weapon in a restroom designed for persons with reduced mobility.
