- Several homes were damaged, with at least one house in the village of Subbotino caught on fire.
Military Response and Defense Systems
The Russian military reported intercepting around 556 drones nationwide, with approximately 130 intercepted in the Moscow region alone. The situation led to drone wreckage being discovered at Sheremetyevo Airport, Moscow’s busiest, although no injuries were reported there.
Statements from Officials
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed the injuries and damage, emphasizing that the situation at Sheremetyevo Airport remained stable. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky highlighted in a Telegram post that Ukraine’s long-range capabilities have effectively reached Moscow.
Retaliatory Actions and Military Strategy
- Zelensky announced intentions to respond to recent Russian hostilities against Ukraine.
- The Ukrainian state security service (SBU) claimed strikes on Russian oil facilities and a semiconductor plant.
- Additional targets included air defense systems at the Belbek military airfield in Crimea.
In the past months, Ukraine has significantly escalated attacks on Russian energy infrastructure, asserting they are legitimate targets crucial for Russia’s ongoing military efforts. This military strategy aims to weaken Russia’s capacity to sustain its offensive operations against Ukraine.
