Priscilla Approaches Hurricane Status in Pacific; New Storm Develops in Atlantic

Hurricane Priscilla is approaching Category 3 status in the Pacific, with significant developments occurring concurrently in the Atlantic. The U.S. National Hurricane Center has provided the latest updates on both storms.

As of Tuesday evening, Hurricane Priscilla had maximum sustained winds of approximately 105 mph. The storm is currently moving northwest at 9 mph.
Location and Impact
- Distance from Cabo Corrientes, Mexico: about 375 miles west
- Distance from Baja California: approximately 190 miles south-southwest of its southern tip
On Tuesday, outer bands of Priscilla extended across the Mexican state of Baja California Sur. There is potential for up to 4 inches of rain in parts of southwestern Mexico over the next 24 hours, raising flash flood concerns in Michoacán and Colima states.
Emergency Measures
The Baja California Sur government canceled classes at all educational institutions in Los Cabos and La Paz starting Tuesday as a precautionary measure. They have also established shelters for residents in at-risk areas.
Tropical Storm Jerry Developments
Meanwhile, in the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Jerry formed with maximum sustained winds reaching 50 mph. It was located about 1,030 miles east-southeast of the northern Leeward Islands and is moving west at 23 mph.

Further out in the Pacific, Tropical Storm Octave is weakening with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph. It is moving east-southeast at 7 mph, located approximately 750 miles southwest of Baja California’s southern tip.
Forecasters continue to monitor the situations for both hurricanes, with expectations that Priscilla may begin to weaken starting Wednesday. Coastal residents are advised of life-threatening surf and rip current conditions on the Mexican coastline due to both storms.
