INDYCAR Revises Sunday’s Indianapolis 500 Qualifying Schedule

INDYCAR has revised the schedule for the PPG Presents Armed Forces Qualifying for the 110th Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge after rain postponed Saturday’s qualifications at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The updated qualifying will take place on Sunday, starting at noon ET.

Revised Qualifying Format

All 33 participants in the Indianapolis 500 will follow the qualifying order established during a draw on Friday. Each car will have one attempt to achieve a traditional four-lap qualifying speed, crucial for moving on to the later rounds of qualifying.

  • Initial qualifying runs will determine positions 13-33.
  • The fastest 12 cars will advance to a Top 12 round at approximately 4:30 p.m.

Top 12 and Firestone Fast Six Rounds

The qualifying format is similar to previous years. In the Top 12 round, the order will start from the slowest qualifiers and proceed to the fastest. Each qualifying attempt provides the following outcomes:

  • Positions 7 through 12 will be based on the qualifying times.
  • The six fastest cars will enter the Firestone Fast Six to decide the pole position.

The pole position winner will earn the NTT P1 Award along with a prize of $100,000. Additionally, points will be allocated for the 2026 NTT INDYCAR SERIES championship. Points distribution for the Top 12 session is as follows:

4th 9
5th 8
6th 7
7th 6

Fan Engagement and Coverage

Fans can engage with their favorite teams during a cool-down period before the Top 12 and Firestone Fast Six rounds. This includes laps behind the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X Pace Car to help cool the engines.

Live coverage begins at 9:30 a.m. ET on FS2 and FOX One, with qualifying starting at noon. The final Top 12 and Firestone Fast Six rounds will air at 4 p.m. on FOX and FOX One. For additional coverage, INDYCAR Radio is available on SiriusXM channel 218 and the INDYCAR App powered by NTT DATA.

All tickets from Saturday’s event will be honored for Sunday’s qualifications, though suite and hospitality tickets will allow general admission access only.
