Health Challenges
On May 1, Lavoie experienced distress during a training session. Subsequent medical evaluations revealed he had suffered a carotid artery tear and two strokes shortly before.
After intensive care at the Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital, an MRI confirmed the severity of his condition. Lavoie expressed gratitude for the support he received, noting that even young players like Matthew Schaefer from the New York Islanders reached out to check on him.
A Positive Outlook
Despite the challenges he faced, Lavoie remains optimistic about his recovery. “I’m doing super well,” he stated during the interview, emphasizing the immense love and support he felt from the community. He considers himself lucky to have overcome such a serious health scare.
