Good News: Unseen Event Sequence Returns After 6 Months

After a period of six months marked by frequent precipitation, the south of Quebec is experiencing a welcome break. A streak of seven consecutive days without any form of precipitation began on April 21, 2026, and is expected to last until April 28, 2026.

Details of the Unseen Event Sequence

This unprecedented sequence without rain or snow has not occurred since late September 2025. The last noteworthy dry spell in the region lasted for ten days, from September 26 to October 6. While this current break won’t reach those lengths, residents can expect to enjoy a total of eight dry days.

Weather Forecast

  • Start Date: April 21, 2026
  • End Date: Expected April 28, 2026
  • Maximum Temperatures: Between 12°C and 16°C
  • Minimum Temperatures: Between 1°C and 4°C

Throughout this spell, nights will remain cool, maintaining typical spring conditions.

Impacts of Dry Weather

While this event brings beautiful weather, it also raises concerns. The dry conditions are causing the soil in forests to become drier. Dead leaves and needles from last autumn pose a fire risk in the event of a spark.

The Société de protection des forêts contre le feu (SOPFEU) has warned of a high risk of forest fires this weekend. The areas north of Montreal and in the Outaouais region, especially the western part of Outaouais and southern Témiscamingue, are at extreme risk.

So, while residents enjoy the long-awaited sunshine, they must also stay vigilant about fire safety during this dry spell.
