Royal Enfield Unveils First Electric Motorcycle for $3,000 in India

Royal Enfield has made headlines with the launch of its first electric motorcycle, the Flying Flea C6. The company has priced this innovative bike at ₹279,000 in India, which is approximately $3,000. A battery-as-a-service option is available, reducing the price to ₹199,000 (around $2,100).
Specifications of the Flying Flea C6
The Flying Flea C6 is equipped with a 15.4-kW permanent magnet synchronous motor. This motor delivers impressive torque of 44.2 lb-ft (60 Nm) and allows the motorcycle to reach speeds of up to 71 mph (115 km/h). It can accelerate from 0 to 37 mph (60 km/h) in just 3.7 seconds.
Battery and Range
The motorcycle features a 3.91-kWh battery pack. While this battery size is modest compared to some competitors, Royal Enfield claims an IDC-rated range of 96 miles (154 km). However, real-world conditions might yield closer to 62 miles (100 km). The C6 also provides regenerative braking to help preserve battery life during city rides.
- Charging Time: 20% to 80% in approximately 65 minutes.
- Full Charge: Just over two hours.
Weight and Design
Weighing only 273 lb (124 kg), the Flying Flea C6 is Royal Enfield’s lightest motorcycle. It features a forged aluminum frame and magnesium battery casing, contributing to its reduced weight. The design incorporates a WWII-era girder-style front fork, providing classic aesthetics alongside modern engineering.
Advanced Features
The C6 includes several advanced features aimed at enhancing the riding experience:
- 3.5-inch circular TFT touchscreen with Google-powered navigation.
- Smartphone connectivity.
- Traction control and cornering ABS.
- Multiple ride modes, including a customizable “Individual” mode.
- Wireless phone charging and hill-hold assist.
Market Positioning
This launch marks a significant milestone for Royal Enfield. It positions the C6 as a compelling alternative in India’s crowded motorcycle market. While priced slightly above many entry-level options, it is competitive within the sub-350cc segment.
As Royal Enfield plans to expand its market presence globally, the eventual pricing in international markets may differ. However, should the Flying Flea C6 reach western shores at around $6,000, it could pose strong competition to existing electric offerings.
