Spring Floods Prompt Outaouais Emergency, Lanaudière Stays Vigilant

Spring floods have severely impacted several areas in Quebec, particularly the Outaouais region. An emergency was declared due to rising water levels along the Coulonge River. The municipality of Mansfield-et-Pontefract ordered about 70 residents to evacuate their homes amid increasing flood risks.

Outaouais Emergency Declaration

As of Monday morning, the water level of the Ottawa River in Fort-Coulonge exceeded the threshold for major flooding. This area has been at the center of emergency declarations since Sunday evening.

Other Affected Regions

  • Nine additional sectors in Quebec reported moderate flooding.
  • Four of these areas are also located in Outaouais, near Gatineau.
  • In Lanaudière, rising levels of Lake Maskinongé have caused flooding in Saint-Gabriel-de-Brandon.
  • The Noire and Ouareau Rivers threatened communities like Sainte-Émélie-de-l’Énergie and Rawdon; however, conditions appear to be improving.

Flood Threats in Other Areas

Near Quebec City, the Saint-Charles River raised concerns over the weekend, but levels started to decrease after 11 AM on Sunday. It is expected to shift to a “minor flooding” status by Thursday.

Montréal’s Alarm

On the island of Montreal, Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue has drawn significant attention due to rising waters along Lake des Deux-Montagnes. As of Monday at 9 AM, the area reached a moderate flooding threshold, with levels still climbing.

Current Flooding Status

Overall, Quebec is dealing with 27 minor flooding incidents, with 15 sectors experiencing rising water levels. Additionally, 20 areas remain under close surveillance for potential flooding developments.
