The Freedom Mobile Arch, Vancouver’s newest entertainment hub, is set to officially open on June 5, 2026. This event will precede its inaugural use as part of Vancouver’s FIFA World Cup Fan Festival. The PNE recently announced plans for this much-anticipated opening celebration.

The opening night will kick off with a 90-minute variety show featuring notable Canadian artists. Jann Arden, the legendary singer, will lead the lineup. Other performers include:

- Bobby Bruce’s Nearly Neil and the Solitary Band
The event promises to blend Indigenous cultural expressions with music, dance, and storytelling. Attendees will also have the unique chance to view significant Indigenous art pieces prominent within the venue.
Significance of the Freedom Mobile Arch
Built on the former site of a 1960s temporary amphitheatre, the Freedom Mobile Arch features the largest mass-timber domed roof in North America. Designed by Revery Architecture and constructed by EllisDon, it accommodates 10,000 spectators, with:
- 6,000 under the roof
- 4,000 in the flexible “BCLC Backyard” lawn area
The amphitheatre incorporates modern back-of-house and front-of-house facilities, enhancing both the spectator experience and sound quality during events.
Financial Investment and Future Prospects
The project, costing $184 million, aims to boost the range and quality of events at the PNE. The amphitheatre will serve as a vital revenue source and support a longer operating season through its weather-protective design.
Originally outlined in the Hastings Park/PNE master plan over fifteen years ago, the official planning for the new venue gained momentum just before the pandemic. The PNE has already announced an exciting concert lineup for the amphitheatre’s debut season starting in August 2026.
