Maple Leafs Assign Cowan, Five Teammates to AHL Marlies

The Toronto Maple Leafs have concluded their season, leading to the reassignment of rookie forward Easton Cowan along with five teammates to the AHL’s Toronto Marlies. This decision was officially announced on April 17, 2026.

Easton Cowan’s Performance Overview
During his inaugural professional season, Cowan impressed with the Maple Leafs, scoring 11 goals and accumulating 29 points across 66 games. In addition, he made two appearances for the Marlies, recording one assist.
Cowan, 20, averaged 14:43 of ice time throughout the 2025-26 season. He was the 28th overall pick in the first round of the 2023 NHL Draft.
A Stellar Junior Career
Before joining the Maple Leafs, Cowan had a notable junior career. He played a crucial role in helping the London Knights win the Memorial Cup in 2025, along with two Ontario Hockey League (OHL) championships in 2024 and 2025. His performance earned him the Stafford Smythe Memorial Trophy as the Memorial Cup Most Valuable Player, along with the Red Tilson Trophy and the Wayne Gretzky 99 Award in 2024.
Marlies’ Playoff Status
The Marlies are performing well, currently positioned fourth in the North Division. They have secured a place in the Calder Cup playoffs, with only two games left in their regular-season schedule.
