Chopin Airport Sets Historic Record This Quarter

Chopin Airport in Warsaw has reported a significant milestone in its operational history. In the first quarter of 2026, the airport processed over 5.2 million passengers, marking an 8% increase compared to the same period in 2025. This achievement represents a historic first for the airport, as it is the only instance of exceeding 5 million passengers within the first three months of the year.

Passenger Traffic Growth Amid Challenges

In March alone, Chopin Airport served 1,769,606 passengers, a growth of 3.4% year-over-year. The peak day for passenger traffic occurred on March 27, with 64,600 travelers passing through the terminal.

During March, the airport recorded over 14,500 passenger flights and a total of 15,700 flights overall. However, over 360 flights were canceled due to operational issues related to the regional crisis.

Popular Destinations from Chopin Airport

Londyn remains the most visited destination, followed closely by Paryż. Changes in the rankings have seen Amsterdam, Brussels, and Istanbul rise in popularity. The top five charter destinations have shifted, featuring Marsa Alam, Hurghada, and Sharm el Sheikh, along with Bangkok and Fuerteventura.

Cargo Operations and Future Prospects

March also saw over 10,800 tons of cargo processed, contributing to a total of almost 34,500 tons in the first quarter. The leading cargo carriers included:

  • Qatar Airways
  • DHL Express
  • UPS Airlines
  • Emirates

Key cargo destinations comprised Doha, Leipzig, Cologne, Dubai, and New York. Despite disruptions from the Middle Eastern crisis, cargo transport at Chopin Airport showed a nearly 12% growth.

Infrastructure Enhancements

Looking ahead, Chopin Airport plans to launch a new website in April, featuring an updated visual identity and color scheme. This initiative aligns with broader goals to enhance the travel experience at Poland’s largest airport, which served 24 million passengers in 2025.

Chopin Airport is managed by PPL, a prominent entity in Polish aviation infrastructure. PPL owns and operates various enterprises across the aviation sector, reinforcing Poland’s role as a significant transport hub.
