Dacia is set to launch an affordable electric city car priced under £16,000. This new model represents one of the four electric vehicles (EVs) the company plans to introduce by 2030. Recently, the car was spotted undergoing testing, highlighting its development progress.
Design Features of the New Dacia Electric Car
The upcoming Dacia electric model shares strong similarities with the Renault Twingo. Both vehicles exhibit features such as a raked C-pillar, a curved roofline, and rounded rear windows. However, the Dacia electric car has distinct design elements:
- A thin gloss-black panel replaces the Twingo’s rounded front light design.
- It lacks the lozenge-style window shroud found on the Twingo.
- The brake lights are positioned higher than those on the Twingo.
These differences, along with a slightly larger and wider structure, contribute to the unique identity of the Dacia model. The design is expected to reflect influences from Dacia’s SUV lineup.
Specifications and Pricing
Although Dacia has not released comprehensive technical specifications, the new electric city car is anticipated to utilize a 27.5kWh battery, resulting in an estimated range exceeding 160 miles. The starting price is projected to be below €18,000, which is approximately £15,600. This pricing strategy positions the Dacia model as one of the most affordable EVs available, undercutting its primary competitor, the Twingo.
Future Plans for Dacia’s Electric Lineup
In addition to this city car, Dacia has committed to unveiling three more electric vehicles in the next four years. Notably, one of these will be an electric variant of the next-generation Sandero. This model will utilize Renault’s CMF-B platform, which accommodates various powertrain options, including conventional combustion engines, hybrids, and fully electric systems.
Dacia maintains its commitment to providing value for money. The Sandero is expected to uphold this tradition, as it has historically been the most affordable car on the UK market. Alongside expanding its EV lineup, Dacia aims to bolster its hybrid offerings. Presently, about 25% of Dacia cars sold feature hybrid technology, with aspirations to increase this proportion to two-thirds in the coming years.
