Heavy Rain Forecast: Flood Risk Warning Issued for GTA Tuesday

Heavy rain is forecasted for the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) on Tuesday, prompting a flood risk warning from the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA). Up to 25 millimeters of rain is expected, beginning early in the morning and lasting through the afternoon.

Rainfall and Flood Risk

Environment Canada predicts rainfall totals between 15 to 25 millimeters. As a result, the TRCA issued a flood outlook, effective until Wednesday evening. The authorities warned that thunderstorms could exacerbate flooding risk, leading to overflowing rivers.

  • Date of Rainfall: Tuesday, April 14, 2026
  • Expected Rainfall: 15 to 25 millimeters
  • Flood Outlook End Date: Wednesday evening, April 15, 2026
  • Temperature Forecast: High of 21°C on Tuesday

Impacts on the Region

The TRCA has alerted residents that all shorelines, rivers, and streams are considered dangerous. Rapidly changing water levels and stronger currents are anticipated due to the forecasted rainfall. Recent wet ground conditions, with 3 to 9 millimeters of rain received in the past 48 hours, will limit water absorption.

Following Tuesday’s rain, additional precipitation is forecast for Wednesday and Thursday, with a daytime high of 18°C. The chance of showers decreases slightly on Friday, with a 30% probability of rain throughout the day.

Residents in the GTA are advised to remain vigilant and exercise caution around all bodies of water during this period of heavy rainfall.
