The absence of the election team left many families frustrated. Many had come to assist their loved ones in casting their votes. Thouraya Bejaoui, the director of the residence, reported that the posted schedule clearly indicated the team would be present in the morning.
“We did not receive any follow-up communication or notice regarding their absence,” Bejaoui stated in an interview with TVA Nouvelles. This oversight led to a review of the polling process, raising concerns about accessibility and support for senior voters.
Delayed Voting Hours
Later in the day, Elections Canada sent a team to the residence. However, many family members who had initially arrived to help were no longer available, leaving some residents without assistance. One family member vocalized her frustration, highlighting the predicament of numerous residents unable to cast their votes.
- Initially scheduled voting hours: 9 AM to 12 PM
- Revised voting hours: 1 PM to 5 PM
- Number of residents: Approximately 40
Elections Canada later confirmed that the mobile voting unit at Villa Victoire de l’Âge would be operational from 1 PM to 5 PM. They reassured the public that notices were distributed to inform voters about the adjusted hours.
This incident underscores the importance of timely communication and organization in effectively serving the voting needs of senior citizens, particularly during critical electoral periods.
