Dacia has introduced its innovative mini-EV concept car, the “Hipster,” during a recent presentation in Meudon, near Paris, on September 30, 2025. The new vehicle aims to offer an affordable option for European consumers looking for electric mobility solutions.
Dacia’s “Hipster” Mini-Car: A Game Changer for Electric Vehicles
The company’s prototype is expected to retail for less than 15,000 euros (approximately $17,625). This price point targets consumers interested in low-cost alternatives to Chinese electric vehicles. The “Hipster” measures just 3 meters (9.84 feet) in length and weighs under 800 kg (1,763.7 lbs), making it the smallest car on the European market.

Advocacy for a New EU Small Car Category
To facilitate vehicles like the “Hipster,” Dacia and Renault are advocating for a new category of small cars within the European Union. Inspired by Japan’s Kei Cars, this category would require fewer safety features than larger vehicles, making it easier to reduce costs and weight.
According to reports, the average price of new cars in Europe has increased by 63% between 2001 and 2020. Dacia emphasizes the need for more affordable options in the market. However, any new regulations may also stipulate that such vehicles must be manufactured in Europe.
