Humber River Hospital Renamed Following $50 Million Donation

The Humber River Hospital has officially been renamed Hennick Humber Hospital following a substantial $50 million donation. This generous contribution comes from Jay and Barbara Hennick, recognized as one of the most significant donations to a community hospital in Canada.

Impact of the Donation

The donation is poised to enhance patient care, research, and education at the North York facility. According to a recent press release, this funding will enable the hospital to expand and improve its services.

  • Investment Focus: The funds will support advanced technologies and clinical programs.
  • Goal: To empower medical teams in delivering high-quality patient care.

Jay Hennick, global chairman and CEO of Colliers International Group Inc., and his wife Barbara, the president of The Jay and Barbara Hennick Family Foundation, have deep ties to the local community. They believe their donation is a back investment into a community that played a crucial role in shaping their lives.

Vision for Community Care

In their statement, the Hennicks expressed their desire to direct their support to a community hospital capable of making a meaningful impact. Humber River Hospital quickly became their top choice due to its remarkable achievements and the growing population it serves.

As part of this development, the Humber Hospital Foundation will be renamed the Hennick Humber Hospital Foundation. The donation will also set up the Hennick Hospital Endowment Fund, further ensuring sustainable growth.

Humber River Hospital’s Achievements

Notably, Humber River Hospital was the first fully digital hospital in North America, equipped with an integrated electronic medical record system. It has also established Canada’s first hospital Command Centre, achieving patient safety metrics that exceed both provincial and national averages by 60 percent.

Previous Contributions

This is not the Hennicks’ first venture into healthcare philanthropy. In 2021, they donated $36 million to Sinai Health, enabling the renaming of the facility to Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital.

These impactful contributions reflect the Hennicks’ commitment to healthcare excellence and community wellbeing, ensuring that generations to come will have access to exceptional medical services.
