Istanbul Half Marathon Scheduled for April 19th

The 21st Istanbul Half Marathon is set to take place on Sunday, April 19, under the theme “The Fastest Half, The Fastest You.” This event, classified as a Gold Label by World Athletics, stands out as one of Europe’s top three half marathons and ranks among the top ten globally.

Event Details

Organized by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s Youth and Sports Services Directorate in collaboration with Spor Istanbul, registration for participants is currently open.

Participation and Record Numbers

  • As of today, over 17,300 participants have registered across two categories.
  • A record-breaking 2,000 international participants from 106 different countries are expected to join.
  • The event will host 55 elite athletes competing among 20,000 targeted participants.

Additions to the Competition

The Turkish Half Marathon Championship, organized by the Turkish Athletics Federation, will be held concurrently with the Istanbul Half Marathon.

Promoting Istanbul as a Sports Capital

Nuri Aslan, Deputy Mayor of Istanbul, emphasized the city’s ambition to become a global sports capital. He remarked on the ongoing efforts towards hosting the Olympics, stating, “The half marathon will take place amidst Istanbul’s rich historical and cultural heritage.”

Prizes for Participants

At the conclusion of the race, champions will receive a prize of $15,000 each, with a total of 360,000 Turkish Lira awarded to Turkish athletes.

The Istanbul Half Marathon promises to be a significant event, blending sports with the city’s cultural allure and fostering international participation.
