Criminal Funds Reinvested to Empower Community Groups

Recently, the Thames Valley Police and Crime Commissioner’s Community Fund awarded £201,077 to 47 different organisations. This funding aims to enhance community safety and support local groups in addressing key policing priorities.

Criminal Funds Reinvested to Empower Community Groups

The Community Fund is co-managed by Matthew Barber, the Police and Crime Commissioner, and Chief Constable Jason Hogg. It operates on a biannual basis, providing grants to community and voluntary organisations aligned with the Police and Crime Plan.

Funding Purposes

Matthew Barber addressed the significance of the selected projects. He stated that funding was directed to organisations focused on:

  • Enhancing security measures, including the installation of CCTV.
  • Facilitating diversionary activities for young people.
  • Improving road safety throughout the region.

These projects are crucial in the ongoing effort to reduce crime and promote public safety.

Funding Source and Impact

The funds allocated originate from the sale of items seized during criminal activities, which cannot be returned to their original owners. This innovative approach helps reinvest criminal proceeds into community betterment.

Chief Constable Jason Hogg emphasized the importance of this funding in aiding organisations to implement projects that prevent crime and bolster community protection.

Application Process and Outcomes

A total of 287 applications were submitted for this round, with the total funding requested exceeding £2 million. Each successful organisation received between £500 and £7,000.

On May 8, a presentation event in Oxford will welcome the recipients to celebrate their achievements and contributions to community welfare. A complete list of funded organisations is available on the El-Balad Community Fund webpage.
