Rihanna Shooting Suspect Faces Court Proceedings

In a significant court appearance, Ivanna Ortiz, the woman charged with shooting at Rihanna’s home, attended a hearing at the Los Angeles Superior Court. This marked her first appearance since pleading not guilty last month to 14 serious charges, including attempted murder.

Details of the Case Against Ivanna Ortiz

Ortiz was escorted into the courtroom in handcuffs, wearing a yellow prison uniform. Reports indicate that she smiled as she was led by a sheriff’s deputy. Her charges stem from an incident that occurred on March 8, when she allegedly drove to Rihanna’s residence and opened fire with an assault rifle.

Charges and Legal Proceedings

  • Charges against Ortiz include:
    • Attempted murder of Rihanna
    • Ten counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm
    • Three counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling

If convicted, Ortiz faces a potential life sentence in prison. Deputy District Attorney Alexander Bott highlighted the severe ramifications of the incident, stating it could have resulted in multiple homicides involving both adults and children. He pointed out that the shooting was premeditated, noting Ortiz drove to the location with a loaded weapon, ammunition, and a wig as a disguise.

Bail and Next Steps

During her arraignment, Judge Theresa McGonigle declined to reduce Ortiz’s bail, which stands at approximately $1.87 million. On Wednesday, the new judge assigned to the case, Judge Shannon Cooley, also rejected a request from Ortiz’s public defender to lower the bail. A follow-up appearance has been set for May 13, where a full preliminary hearing date will be established.

At the time of the alleged shooting, Rihanna was at her five-bedroom home with her partner, rapper A$AP Rocky, and their three young children. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident, despite multiple shots being fired towards the residence and a neighboring house.
