Liechtenstein Authorities Stop Multiple Unfit Drivers

In March 2026, authorities in Liechtenstein took decisive action against unfit drivers during various traffic operations. The national police conducted a series of traffic checks and investigated two accidents, leading to the identification of seven drivers exhibiting signs of incapacity. Following these incidents, further examinations were initiated, and their driving licenses were revoked.
Details of the Traffic Operations
The individuals involved were all men, aged between 24 and 85 years. Initial investigations revealed that some drivers were under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. The highest blood alcohol concentration recorded was 1.95 grams per liter.
Speeding Violations in Vaduz
In addition to the checks for driving under the influence, specific speed controls were implemented in Vaduz, following traffic diversions through residential areas. A total of 171,298 vehicles were monitored by a mobile radar unit during this operation.
- Total vehicles monitored: 171,298
- Percentage of speeding drivers: Approximately 1%
- Drivers with Liechtenstein license plates: 82%
- Highest recorded speed: 53 km/h (within a 30 km/h zone)
The recent traffic controls demonstrate Liechtenstein authorities’ commitment to maintaining road safety. By identifying unfit drivers and enforcing speed limits, they aim to reduce traffic-related incidents and ensure safer roads for all.
