Gunshots Heard Near Israeli Consulate in Istanbul

Gunshots were reported near the Israeli Consulate in Istanbul’s Beşiktaş district. The incident unfolded around 12:20 PM on a Wednesday when a suspected attacker approached the consulate and opened fire.

Details of the Incident

Police quickly arrived at the scene, and a confrontation ensued. Two police officers were injured during the exchange. The attacker was neutralized shortly after, thanks to the swift response of additional police units.

Official Response and Investigation

The Minister of Justice, Akın Gürlek, provided the first official statement following the attack. He confirmed that the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has initiated an immediate investigation into the gunfire reports near the consulate.

Two public prosecutors and an assistant chief prosecutor have been assigned to the case. They have already begun their examinations at the scene. The investigation aims to clarify all aspects of the incident, in coordination with relevant law enforcement agencies.
