Vancouver-based mining company Vizsla Silver has confirmed that nine of its workers who were kidnapped in Mexico are now deceased. The tragic announcement comes following the abduction of ten workers from a secure residential compound in Concordia, located in the Sinaloa province, on January 23.

The workers were abducted in late January, and their bodies were discovered in February. A total of ten bodies were found, with authorities identifying five victims at the time. As the investigation progressed, three of the originally kidnapped workers were officially confirmed dead.

Mexican authorities are also examining the conditions under which the workers were operating, with President Claudia Sheinbaum stating that the investigation will assess any potential responsibilities of Vizsla Silver in the incident.

Global Affairs Canada has noted that, as of now, it is unaware of any Canadian nationals still missing in connection with the abduction. The incident has raised significant concerns regarding safety in the region and the impact of cartel violence on local communities and foreign businesses.
