Details of the Quebec Power Outage

At its peak around 12:30 p.m., approximately 24,450 customers faced disruptions in service. Specifically, the breakdown of outages was as follows:

  • Montérégie: 1,038 customers
  • Estrie: 378 customers

Fortunately, major urban areas like Montreal and Laval reported no outages during this incident.

Causes and Response

The outages were attributed to strong winds and falling vegetation affecting power lines. Audrey St-Pierre, a spokesperson for Hydro-Québec, explained the situation, stating, “Weather conditions over the past few hours have caused power outages in some regions of Quebec, mainly due to strong winds.”

Hydro-Québec deployed crews across the affected areas to restore power as quickly as possible. “Among the outages, a transmission line in the Eastern Townships region was impacted by a fallen tree,” St-Pierre added. Crews were actively working on-site to address these issues.

Customers were informed that power was expected to be restored by later in the day.
