Kings’ DeMar DeRozan Surpasses NBA Legend in All-Time Scoring List

DeMar DeRozan of the Sacramento Kings has achieved a significant milestone in his career by surpassing NBA legend Oscar Robertson on the all-time scoring list. This accomplishment took place during a game against the Los Angeles Clippers at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.

DeRozan’s Scoring Milestone

Entering the game, DeRozan ranked 17th on the all-time scoring list with 26,702 points. To move up to 16th place, he needed nine points, a target he reached swiftly. DeRozan scored nine of Sacramento’s first 11 points within the first four minutes of the opening quarter.

He surpassed Robertson with a 15-foot fadeaway jumper, hitting the milestone with 7:38 left in the first quarter. This achievement adds to DeRozan’s impressive list of players he has overtaken this season, including:

  • Vince Carter
  • Kevin Garnett
  • John Havlicek
  • Paul Pierce
  • Tim Duncan
  • Dominique Wilkins

Notable Past Achievements

Just earlier in the week, DeRozan passed Dominique Wilkins during a game against the Toronto Raptors, further solidifying his position among basketball greats. He accomplished this feat in Toronto, the city where he spent nine seasons after being drafted 9th overall from USC in 2009.

DeRozan’s Career with the Kings

DeMar DeRozan is currently enjoying his second season with the Sacramento Kings. In July 2024, he joined the team via a sign-and-trade deal involving the Chicago Bulls and San Antonio Spurs, signing a three-year contract worth $73.7 million.

Legacy of Oscar Robertson

Oscar Robertson, a 16-time All-Star and Hall of Fame member, remains a celebrated figure in the NBA. He is noted as the best player in Kings franchise history, having originally played for the Cincinnati Royals before the team’s relocation in 1972, when it became the Kansas City Kings.
