Sugar Shack Tradition Expensive: Costs Reach Up to $50 Per Person

As the sugar shack season approaches, visitors should prepare for higher costs associated with this traditional experience. Many establishments are now charging up to $50 per person for a complete meal, primarily due to rising food costs and operational expenses.

Sugar Shack Costs Increase: Up to $50 Per Person

According to recent data, brunch prices for adults in sugar shacks can range from $40 to $50. These prices do not include taxes or tips, making the experience even pricier for patrons.

Factors Contributing to High Costs

Several owners cite the soaring prices of grocery items and the difficulties of maintaining profitability in the restaurant industry as key reasons for the increased costs. As Mélanie Charbonneau, co-owner of Érablière Charbonneau, stated, their profit margins are modest, generally between 5% and 10%:

  • Rising grocery prices
  • Increased operational costs
  • Higher wages for staff
  • Time-intensive preparation of food

Maxime Constantin, who manages Cabane à sucre Constantin, emphasized that the rise in expenses impacts their prices. “We produce everything from scratch, which adds to the overall cost,” he explained.

Perception of Value Among Visitors

Despite the increased charges, many customers still find value in the sugar shack experience. According to feedback gathered by TVA Nouvelles, guests appreciate the high-quality food and the enjoyable atmosphere. A father celebrating his daughter’s birthday remarked:

“We missed this place. It’s very nice, and the food is excellent. It’s worth the price.” Another visitor echoed these sentiments, remarking on the joy of returning after a long absence.

The sugar shack experience continues to draw customers, proving that while prices may be steep, the cultural and culinary value remains significant.
