Noovo Info: Celebrating Five Years of Broadcasting Excellence

Noovo Info, a division of Bell Média, is celebrating five successful years in the broadcasting industry. Launched in the summer of 2020, the news department aimed to attract a younger audience that had largely turned away from traditional news outlets. Under the leadership of Jean-Philippe Pineault, the initiative has evolved into a fresh and innovative news source.

Reaching a Younger Audience

One of Noovo Info’s key objectives was to engage viewers aged 25-54. Over the last year, market share within this demographic increased by 1.4 points during prime time. In contrast, competitors TVA Nouvelles and ICI Télé experienced declines of 2.8 and 2 points, respectively.

Innovative Programming and Live Coverage

Noovo Info has focused on experimentation and bold storytelling. Pineault emphasizes this approach, stating, “The idea was to take risks and try new things.” The news provider has committed to expanding its reach by introducing a news section on the streaming platform Crave. This will enable live special broadcasts during significant events.

  • Streaming on Crave: Scheduled to debut soon, this initiative aims to capture viewers on digital platforms.
  • Remote News Coverage: Noovo Info has adapted by adopting virtual studios after relocating its headquarters.

Successful Shows and Documentaries

The talk show “Les débatteurs,” hosted by Michel Bherer, has become a major success since its inception. The show focuses on informed debates, tackling various viewpoints while avoiding becoming an echo chamber. Pineault notes the importance of balanced discussions to engage audiences effectively.

Documentary Series Impact

Noovo Info has also produced impactful documentaries. For example, “Père 100 enfants,” highlights a controversial figure and has resonated with many viewers. Another standout, “La prison de l’Esprit-Saint,” won a Gémeaux award for revealing hidden activities within a sect.

Adapting to Modern Journalism

In December, Noovo Info introduced “Entre les lignes,” an immersive journalism format exploring delicate subjects live on location. This show, hosted by Étienne Fortin-Gauthier, offers a proactive approach to journalism.

Investing in Technology

After significant disruptions in their operations due to an accident in August 2024, Noovo Info quickly transitioned to virtual sets. This innovative approach allowed them to maintain high-quality broadcasts and adapt to changing circumstances efficiently.

Future Plans

With additional funding from the provincial budget for newsrooms, Noovo Info plans to continue its current programming while enhancing its offerings. The news team is also preparing for an electoral coverage event this fall.

In summary, Noovo Info’s journey over the past five years reflects a successful adaptation to modern news consumption patterns. By focusing on digital platforms and innovative storytelling, it is strategically positioned for future growth and audience engagement.
