Robert MacIntyre Leads by Two as Valero Texas Open Halted in Round 3

In a thrilling update from the Valero Texas Open, Robert MacIntyre currently leads the field by two strokes as the tournament faced significant weather-related delays. The PGA TOUR postponed the third round at approximately 5:52 p.m. local time on Saturday. This decision followed a suspension of play that began five hours earlier. All 70 players who made the cut will return to the course on Sunday to resume play, starting at 7:45 a.m. local time, without resetting after the first 54 holes.
Weather Disruptions at the Tournament
PGA TOUR rules official Ken Tackett stated, “We’re done. The golf course just can’t take any more.” Unfortunately, no players completed their rounds on Saturday. The final group, consisting of Robert MacIntyre, Ludvig Åberg, and Kevin Roy, managed to finish six holes before the weather worsened.
- Robert MacIntyre: 1st place at 15 under
- Ludvig Åberg: 2nd place at 13 under
- Kevin Roy: Tied for 10th at 9 under
- Matt Wallace: 11 under overall with a score of 7 under for Saturday
- Marco Penge: 10 under overall with seven birdies on his first nine holes
As play was suspended, rain intensified, leading to sheets of water that overwhelmed the course. Tackett further noted that the bad weather was a familiar challenge for this long-standing tournament, celebrating its 104th year. Historically, weather delays have notably influenced the Valero Texas Open; in 1928, players, including Tommy Armour, used a similar delay to establish bylaws for the Professional Touring Golfers’ Association, a precursor to the current PGA TOUR.
Looking Ahead
The remaining players are eager to return and conclude their rounds on Sunday. As temperatures drop and conditions remain unpredictable, fans and players alike will be anticipating a challenging finish to this year’s Valero Texas Open.
