Quebec Travelers Seek Fresh Destinations Beyond Paris and Barcelona

A recent study highlights a shift in the travel habits of Quebec residents. Despite rising inflation, most Québécois continue to travel at least once a year. The study, conducted by the Transat Tourism Chair at UQAM’s School of Management, surveyed over 3,000 respondents. It reveals a growing inclination towards unique experiences rather than well-known tourist spots like Paris and Barcelona.
Trends in Quebec Travel Habits
According to the study, an impressive 93% of Quebecers travel annually. This commitment persists despite the increasing cost of living. Factors such as mental health indicate why many choose to invest in travel during challenging times.
Changing Preferences in Travel
- Quebec travelers are increasingly drawn to outdoor adventures and unique experiences.
- Popular activities now include exploring waterfalls and mountains.
- Smaller, intimate travel experiences such as yacht tours and cruises are gaining traction.
Éric Boissonneault, Vice President of the Quebec Travel Agents Association, emphasizes the desire for new experiences. He states that travelers who have previously visited major cities are seeking more off-the-beaten-path options. Popularity for destinations such as Peru, particularly Machu Picchu, is rising.
Emerging Travel Destinations
- Albania is becoming an increasingly fashionable choice, attracting interest with fewer tourists.
- Travelers are also showing enthusiasm for intimate cruise experiences on smaller ships.
This trend towards fresh travel experiences indicates a vibrant shift in the preferences of Quebec travelers. The emphasis on discovering new locations and engaging in outdoor activities reflects a deeper desire for adventure and exploration beyond traditional tourist attractions.
