Freezing Rain to Hit Maritimes, Heralding Icy Easter Weekend

Freezing rain is set to impact travel across the Maritimes this Easter weekend. Environment Canada has issued warnings for Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island, highlighting hazardous travel conditions due to icy roads and reduced visibility.

Nova Scotia Weather Alerts

In Nova Scotia, snowfall warnings are active for Victoria County and Inverness County, including areas like Mabou. Residents can expect around 15 centimeters of snow from Friday afternoon until Saturday morning.

For much of the province, freezing rain alerts are in effect. This freezing rain is predicted to continue for up to eight hours, creating hazardous conditions. Environment Canada advises caution when walking or driving due to the risk of slippery surfaces.

New Brunswick Conditions

In northern New Brunswick, a snowfall warning is also in place. The region may accumulate 15 to 25 centimeters of snow on Friday. Travelers should expect reduced visibility and are advised to allow extra time for travel.

Meanwhile, the rest of New Brunswick faces freezing rain warnings. Precipitation is anticipated to last up to 12 hours, extending into the evening.

Prince Edward Island Forecast

All of Prince Edward Island is under a freezing rain warning. Expected freezing rain will last between four and eight hours, with 2 to 4 millimeters of accumulation forecast from Friday evening to early Saturday morning.

The precipitation is expected to transition from snow and ice pellets to freezing rain. It may briefly switch back to snow before tapering off on Saturday morning.
